I have had a greenhouse in the past. One that I built. I was looking for a book that discussed new technology in greenhouse construction. This books does, but it geared more for the novice. Anyone that has never had a greenhouse, or built a greenhouse, this is a very good book. As with most books, there is something you can get out of them if you are looking for that. I like the book, recommend it for anyone thinking of owning a greenhouse, and have learned a few things I will incorporate in my newest greenhouse
If you have an interest in building your own greenhouse, or updating, adding features to an existing one, this is a great resource. It is broken down so that it helps one to understand what their needs may be, the areas of the country where one lives and the requirements for the different species of plants. There are also some basic plans, but one would have to be fairly comfortable with tools and wood to take on a project like this. Having said that, the book also goes into kits and what to and not to look for.
This book thoroughly goes over all kinds of design considerations about building a greenhouse. I like having lots of information and details, which you'll definitely get from the book, from the obvious to the not-so-obvious.I am a fairly handy person, but I like books that don't assume any background or knowledge, because that way you can be sure that you're not going to miss anything. Every project seems to have some weird "gotcha" that comes out of the blue, so it's great to consider everything. For example, I had not thought about the obvious problems with humidity in a greenhouse and how that might affect my choice of materials, in regard to rust or kind of wood. The book goes through all the pros and cons of different kinds of material for letting through light, and the pros and cons of different structures and designs based on your climate and latitude, the kinds of plants you'll grow, and so forth.BTW, I bought some of the cheap Kindle books about building hoop houses for <$300, and found that this book contained similar information, and better designs. So, I'd consider the book even if you're thinking of doing a cheap greenhouse, even though much of the material won't be relevant, so at least you have a sense of the options. My only complaint, and this is quite unrealistic, is that the book doesn't discuss much about aquaponics, which is the idea of growing fish and plants together. This is the main reason I want to build a greenhouse, and an aquaponics greenhouse has unique design considerations, in that you're probably not going to transplant anything but instead will likely grow the plants entirely in the greenhouse, and of course, there's a lot of plumbing going on. To be fair, the author does touch on the subject a bit. I didn't expect him to write about aquaponics at all, and I still found the book tremendously helpful.I definitely recommend it.
great book that covers all the things you need to plan for when building a greenhouse. I have read several books and this is the most comprehensive and practical guide.
Very thorough, with checklists, material sheets, building plans and pros and cons for each type of greenhouse. It even goes into tutorials on bricklaying, contracting out and many more. One stop shopping for greenhouse construction
This book is very well written, great designs and helpful hints. I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it for anyone wanted to build or buy a greenhouse.
Great ideas for greenhouses
it is a great resource but it reads more like a what is a greenhouse. there is a good bit of types of greenhouses and history but I will use this as a reference to build my own. not really a how to build as much as a what a green house is. the plans are good and adjustable.
